How band tail recombination influences the open‐circuit voltage of solar cells

چکیده

The power conversion efficiency of solar cells strongly depends on the open-circuit voltage which, in turn, recombination activity within device. A possible source detrimental charge carrier is band tails. An empirical linear relationship between loss and Urbach energy tails has been shown past. Here we discuss how influence radiative nonradiative bulk absorber. First, show through photoluminescence that can be willfully tuned state-of-the-art thin-film Cu (In,Ga)Se2 (CIGSe) absorbers a 20% level beyond incorporation alkali atoms. In second part, compare our CIGSe results to published from other cell technologies. This comparison reveals CIGS follow previously described trend: an increase with decreasing Finally, model tail states losses: Radiative increased because carriers thermalize into free bands Shockley–Read–Hall states. experimental data shows even worse than SRH predicted by model. Our thus suggest act as one main remaining limitations majority cells.

Recombination in Polymer:Fullerene Solar Cells with OpenCircuit Voltages Approaching and Exceeding 1.0 V

Polymer:fullerene solar cells are demonstrated with power conversion effi ciencies over 7% with blends of PBDTTPD and PC 61 BM. These devices achieve open-circuit voltages ( V oc ) of 0.945 V and internal quantum effi ciencies of 88%, making them an ideal candidate for the large bandgap junction in tandem solar cells. V oc ’s above 1.0 V are obtained when the polymer is blended with multiadduct...

How Solar Activity Influences Earth's Molecular Processes

The paper presents a solution to the two-century old problem of how solar activity influences biological objects on Earth. It gives a description of the modern state of the kT-problem, which for a long time has been the most difficult obstacle in the way of explaining solar activity effects. Based on recent advances in spin chemistry, magnetoplasticity physics, and physics of critical condition...

Improved Open- Circuit Voltage in ZnO–PbSe Quantum Dot Solar Cells by Understanding and Reducing Losses Arising from the ZnO Conduction Band Tail

Colloidal quantum dot solar cells (CQDSCs) are attracting growing attention owing to significant improvements in efficiency. However, even the best depleted-heterojunction CQDSCs currently display open-circuit voltages (VOCs) at least 0.5 V below the voltage corresponding to the bandgap. We find that the tail of states in the conduction band of the metal oxide layer can limit the achievable dev...
